Warrington tells Hyland he isn’t ducking Selby

Josh Warrington has hit back at claims that he is afraid of IBF World featherweight champion Lee Selby and says there is ‘no way’ he avoiding the Welsh fighter.

The stage looked set for the former British and European champion to face Selby in a stadium Pay-Per-View World title fight this Summer, but Warrington claimed he planned to get married and the dates didn’t make sense as he would not be able to focus one-hundred percent

So when he announced he was fighting recent World title challenger and Dublin star Patrick Hyland in July he left himself open for criticism.

Indeed even Hyland himself was left bemused by the fact that his July 30th foe hadn’t jumped at the chance to challenge for World honours.

However, the Leeds fan favourite is adamant he wants the clash and wants it ‘bad’.

“There’s no way I’m ducking him – I want that fight so bad,” Warrington told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I just want to make sure everything goes perfect, at the end of the year would have been ideal.”

“The way they came back was they said I ducked the fight. After that I did cancel the wedding a couple of times, we rang the venue and said it’s not going to happen because I’ve got boxing commitments.”

“But I sat down with my manager and my dad and they said ‘just don’t jump to his bait, it will still be there at the end of the year and if he doesn’t want it then that’s his problem, it’s him who’s ducking’.”
