VOTE: The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month – MARCH


March was a simply sensational month for Irish boxing and we have a bumper edition of The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month.

Two shows at home and big wins abroad, we have a top shortlist of 10 fighters vying for the prize.

Voting is open until midnight Friday with results to be posted on Saturday morning.

And the nominees are:

Jay Byrne
Light Middleweight
The Loughlinstown road warrior retained his BBBoC Celtic title with a decisive win over Scottish champion Stefan Sanderson in Turnberry.

Katie Taylor
Lightweight
The Wicklow legend added the WBO title to her collection with a dominant ninth-round stoppage win in her unification versus Rose Volante in Philadelphia.

Noely Murphy
Light Welterweight
The Macroom man put a horrid 2018 behind him with a wide win over John Joyce in Boston, dropping and outpointing the Dubliner over eight rounds.

Spike O’Sullivan
Light Middleweight
The Cork puncher had a tricky fight in Khiary Gray but broke the Boston fighter down and forced a sixth-round stoppage in a fight where he looked as good as every.

Amy Broadhurst
Lightweight
The Dundalk medal machine claimed her second successive gold at the European Under-22 Championships as well as stating her intentions to chase the Irish 60kg at the Tokyo Olympics.

Mick Conlan
Featherweight
Headlining his third consecutive St Patrick’s Day card at Madison Square Garden, Conlan turned in a career-best performance to dominant Ruben Garcia Hernandez..

Luke Keeler
Middleweight
The Ballyfermot man ensured it was repeat rather than revenge when he dominated Conrad Cummings for a second time in Belfast to reclaim the WBO European title.

Eric Donovan
Featherweight
The Athy southpaw looked sensational in the ‘Clash of the Titans’ headliner, scything down Stephen McAfee in the fourth round to take the vacant Irish title.

Victor Rabei
Light Welterweight
The Dubliner retained his BUI Celtic title with a composed and controlled performance against cross-city rival Jake Hanney.

Allan Phelan
Super Featherweight
The Kildare fighter stopped Aiden Metcalfe in the sixth round of a gruelling fight on the ‘Clash of the Titans’ bill – although did not pick up the BUI Celtic belt due to missing weight.
