VOTE: The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month – FEBRUARY

Irish boxing kicked into gear in February with three pro shows and the highlight of the amateur calendar.

An extremely busy month, there were plenty of memorable moments and stand-out performances worthy of recognition.

From this, we have picked five nominees for February’s edition of the Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month.

The Comeback Kings – Stevie Quinn Jr and Dan McShane
Both Stevie Quinn and Dan McShane had not fought since 2015, but the Ulster pair claimed impressive wins on their return to the ring at the Europa Hotel. Quinn, who had stepped away to focus on building his gym in Newtownards, came back in a six-rounder with tough Nicaraguan Edwin Tellez but boxed beautifully in a dominant win. Belfast’s McShane had dislocated his should and lost to Zoltan Horvath the last time he was in the ring and returned and gained redemption against the same opponent, thrilling the crowd as he scored an entertaining win.

Pádraig McCrory
The Belfast super middleweight landed a shot from the ages against Manny Bique at the Devenish Complex. Following a close first round, ‘The Hammer’ hit the perfect punch, putting Bique out like a light and instantly finishing the fight. The incredible knockout would go viral on social media.

Rohan Daté
It was lined up as the fight of the night, a real test, but Rohan Daté demolished Jade Karam in a matter of seconds at the WIT Arena. The Waterford welter proved he had notable power, backing his Cork-South African opponent up and forcing the towel to be thrown after just 26 seconds.

Gráinne Walsh
The inaugural winner of the Jimmy Magee Perpetual Trophy for Best Female fighter at the National Elite Senior Championships, the Offaly welterweight was sensational in her final, dominating former underage star and last year’s 64kg champ Ciara Ginty. It was the performance everyone was talking about leaving the National Stadium.

Kieran Molloy
The Best Male fighter at the National Elite Senior Championships, the Galway teenager dumped reigning welterweight champion Dean Walsh out in the semi-finals before defeating Eugene McKeever in a tactical final at the National Stadium. In terms of young talent, 69kg is one f our hottest divisions ahead of Tokyo, and the Oughterard youngster has grabbed the initiative.
