VOTE: The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month – JUNE


We’re now halfway through 2019 but not before a sensational month for Irish boxing.

June saw major medals picked up in the amateurs and major titles won in the pros as Irish boxers continued to be the island’s top achievers.

A lucky 13 boxers are up for the award this month, one of our longest shortlists yet.

And the nominees are…

Mickes Donoghue
48kg
The Athy teen dominated the European Junior Championships, topping the podium following comprehensive wins over Hungarian, Scottish, Azeri, Russian, and Ukrainian opponents.

Chloe Gabriel
50kg
The Mulhuddart puncher claimed a sensational gold medal at the European Juniors, shocking the Russian favourite in the final with a huge performance.

Katie Taylor
Lightweight
The Wicklow wonder became Ireland’s first ever undisputed champion in the multi-belt era with a thrilling and controversial win over Delfine Persoon in New York.

Steven Ward
Light Heavyweight
The Newtownabbey favourite won a sure-fire Fight of the Year versus Liam Conroy in a blood-stained the Ulster Hall headliner

Tyrone McKenna
Light Welterweight
The rangy southpaw won yet another domestic derby, putting in a smart performance to outpoint dangerous Dub Darragh Foley.

Paddy Gallagher
Welterweight
The popular Lenadoon puncher reinvigorated his career with a dominant and destructive win over Liam Wells at the Ulster Hall.

Eric Donovan
Featherweight
The Lilywhite Lightning roadshow hit London last month as the talented southpaw moved to 10-0 at the York Hall with an impressive win over Moises Mojica.

Regan Buckley
Light Flyweight
The former pro shocked the reigning champion Bator Sagaluev at the European Games before going on to win a wonderful bronze medal.

Kurt Walker
Bantamweight
The Golden Boy. The Lisburn talent claimed top prize at the European Games, beating both the #1 and #2 seeds en-route to glory.

Michaela Walsh
Featherweight
The Belfast star had a fantastic European Games, defeating the reigning world champion Ornella Wahner and avenging a defeat to Russian Daria Abramova before finishing with silver.

Kelly Harrington
Lightweight
The Dubliner was forced to pull out of her European Games final but takes home silver, yet another medal for Ireland’s most prominent amateur boxer.

Grainne Walsh
Welterweight
The Offaly destroyer looked back to her best at the European Games, crashing her was to bronze and only losing out on a narrow and debatable decision to the eventual champion.

Michael Nevin
Middleweight
The young Laois stylist claimed his first major senior medal having stepped in to replace the injured Gabriel Dossen at the European Games and proving the strength in depth of Irish boxing.
