Vladimir Belujsky secures short-notice scrap with Scottish star

Cork super middleweight Vladimir Belujsky [6(6)-1(0)-1] has secured a big fight for this Friday [March 22nd].

‘The Slovak Rebel’ will face top Scot David Brophy [21(4)-2(2)-1] at Emirates Arena in Glasgow this weekend it has been confirmed.

On just a few days notice, Belujsky will jump in with the former Commonwealth champion on a bill that will be streamed live on YouTube.

The fight will take place over six rounds at a 172lbs catchweight on an MTK Global bill.

The opportunty comes at a perfect time for 23-year-old Belujsky who was in camp for a April 13th WBO Youth title fight with James Kraft which was recently cancelled due to the German moving up to light heavyweight.

28-year-old Brophy’s sole losses have come to formed world champion George Groves and in a Comonwealth and British unification with Rocky Fielding. These two big domestics bookended a sensational stoppage win over unbeaten Aussie Zac Dunn in Melbourne to claim the rainbow belt.

The Caldercruix fighter trains alongside Mullingar middle John Joyce under Billy Nelson – although it was announced last week that he had changed coaches to Lawrence Murphy and his current situation is unclear.

It could mean a fantastic start to year for Belujsky who had a frustrating enough 2018.

Having suffered his first career loss in Ireland’s Last Man Standing to eventual winner Roy Sheahan, Belujsky would pick up a handful of wins, including an eight-round Irish title eligibiliy-enabling success in Mexico, but saw a BUI Celtic title fight with Nick Quigley fall through as well as the initial Kraft clash in December.

Considering he was in camp for a ten-round fight, this opportunity here looks a good opportunity for the former sparring partner of Chris Eubank Jr.
