Unification talk continues from Tevin Farmer ahead of Jono Carroll clash

No doubt he won’t be able to ignore the in-your-face Jono Carroll at today’s final press conference but, speaking last night at the public workout, Tevin Farmer was more keen to talk about the other champions than the man who could unbuckle the belt from around his waist this coming Friday.

The IBF super featherweight champion and the man who challenges him atop a Sky Sports and DAZN-broadcast bill in Philadelphia this weekend were in the same vicinity for just the second time in their lives on Tuesday.

However, home favourite Farmer [28(6)-4(2)-1] elected against discussing, ‘King Kong’ during a pre arranged public workout and instead had a message for the other champions at 130lbs.

‘The American Idol’, who defends his title for the third time inside five months this St Patrick’s Weekend, claims he is sick of WBA champion Gervonta Davis and called for his fellow champions ‘to put up or shutup’.

A 1/7 favourite, most, outside of Carroll’s circle and supporters, are picking Farmer to win and the Philly fighter is thinking unifications.

“Everybody is talking about who the best is in the division – there’s only one way to tell,” said Farmer, aiming a verbal broadside at Davis, Miguel Berchelt, and Masayuki Ito.

“I am ready to fight anyone. My promoters Eddie Hearn and Lou DiBella are ready to make a fight with anyone so whomever has a belt out there – it’s time to put up or shut up.”

While DiBella has urged caution, the unification talks persist and, just last weekend, Hearn would suggest a $5,000,000 to entice Davis.

An extremely active champion, Farmer is aiming to coast past Carroll [16(3)-0-1] and continue staying busy and moving towards ‘bigger’ fights.

The slick southpaw, who previously defeated James Tennyson and Francisco Fonseca, noted how “it’s my third defense in five months, I’m the most active male World champion in the world and I want it to continue like that.”

“I like working with Eddie, Lou and DAZN and I hope that we can keep doing business for the rest of my career.”

“I’m fighting more than anyone and I’m winning. I’ve probably defended my title more times since winning it than some champions that have had the belt for two years.”
