Underdog Jamie Conlan ready for date with destiny

It’s a fight he actively pursued even after seeing Jerwin Ancajas defend his world title from a ringside vantage point.

His confidence has been boosted by the fact negotiations proved Team Ancajas were not too keen on  putting their IBF super flyweight title on the line against one Jamie Conlan and most importantly he has home advantage.

There is a date with destiny feel to ‘The Mexican’s’ deserved World title tilt. The popular Belfast little man has done thing the hard way, won more wars than Napoleon and come through some difficult times in terms of the business end of the sport.

It just seems as if reward is finally coming and on November 18 in an SSE Arena packed with partisan will provide the older brother of Top Rank star of the future with his moment of destiny.

However, the bookies seem to have a more logical approach to proceedings and have the champion as favourite ahead of the BT Sports broadcast fight.

IBF super-flyweight champ Jerwin Ancajas (29-1-1, 18 KOs) travels to face the undefeated Jamie Conlan (19-0, 11 KOs) in Belfast on November 18th. The slick and dynamic Ancajas enters as a 1/4 betting favorite. He’s known to pick apart his opponents with his jab and wear them down by working the body. He’s fluid, cerebral, and stands in stark contrast to Conlan (a 7/2 underdog), who prefers the more direct approach. Not afraid to trade blows and slug out a win, Conlan will aim to get in front of the champ and swarm him. He’ll have the roar of Belfast behind him, but he lacks the technical aptitude to outbox the Filipino champ.

The odds available from MyTopSportsbooks’ trusted sportsbooks are a little too generous to both fighters, but they’re not far off in terms of the probability of winning this fight. Ancajas’ 1/4 odds carry an 80% win probability; Conlan’s 7/2 odds put him at 22% to win. Leaving a little room for a draw, we have Anajas at 77% (8/27) and Conlan at 19% (17/4).
