Ulster Hall Headline Fight CONFIRMED – Tennyson Title Plan Proposed

The headline fight for the ‘A Night To Remember’ card has been confirmed.

MHD Promotions kick off 2019 for Irish boxing on Saturday February 9th at the famous Ulster Hall.

Recent World title challenger James Tennyson [22(18)-3(3)] headlines the card and was set to defend his Commonwealth super featherweight title but it has been announced this morning that ‘The Assassin’ will take a temporary step up to lightweight to face undefeated Englishman Garry Neale [10(1)-0]

Portsmouth southpaw Neale is undefeated as a pro is two fights into a comeback following four years away from the ring.

While he had to vacate his European title sensational won against Martin J Ward back in May, Tennyson was able to hold on to his Commonwealth belt despite the world title defeat to Tevin Farmer in October.

The rainbow belt must be defended by the end of March but the fight with 30-year-old Neale, over ten rounds and made above the 130lbs limit, does not fulfil this.

However, manager Dunlop has a plan and has tentatively scheduled a second show in Belfast at a to-be-confirmed venue on Saturday March 30th where Tennyson, should he beat Neale, will defend the Commonwealth title.

A sensational fight is in the works for this date, with Dunlop proposing a clash between Tenny and his managerial stablemate and sparring partner Ronnie Clark [21(10)-4(1)-2].

This proposal would be contingent on Clark upsetting British champion Sam Bowen in Leicester on February 23rd and being able to fulfil a short turnaround for a domestic unification with Tennyson.

The card in seven weeks time also features domestic title contenders Paul Hyland Jr, Feargal McCrory, Tommy McCarthy, Luke Wilton, and prospects Mathew Fitzsimons and Cathy McAleer
