Tyson Fury wants Katie Taylor v Holly Holm to determine World’s top female fighter

There was massive shock and publicity a couple of weeks ago when former boxing World champion Holly Holm defeated UFC poster-girl Ronda Rousey.

Inevitably there was heated boxing v grappling debates and the like, as well as a rush to crown Holm as the most complete female fighter on the planet.

However, Tyson Fury, who tonight challenges Wladimir Klitschko for the heavyweight crown in Germany, believes that the accolade of World’s #1 female fighter belongs to Katie Taylor.

Speaking to IFL TV, the former Irish champ expressed the belief that “Pound-for-pound, she’s [Taylor] got to be the best woman fighter there’s ever been.”

Additionally, the well-versed Fury explained that “There was another good woman fighter from Holland, Lucia Rijker, and Emmanuel Stewart said she was the best woman fighter but I’d like to see Katie Taylor versus Lucia Rijker.”

Fury then noted that “I’d like to see Holly Holm-Katie Taylor in the ring, make that fight happen” – before joking “Eddie [Hearn] where are ya?”

Taylor – whose laundry list of achievements reads: 5 World golds, 6 European golds, 5 EU golds, 1 European Games gold, and 1 Olympic gold – last night fought, and won, her first Irish title in the ring in an exciting fight with Tipperary’s rising star Shauna O’Keefe.

Before she entered the UFC, Holm spoke exclusively to irish-boxing.com and expressed her willingness to face Taylor in a boxing match.
