Tyson Fury Training and Injury Update

Top Pro Gif Ad
Unified and lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury re-entered camp this week ahead of his re-fixed rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.

The former Irish champion badly sprained his ankle whilst jogging, forcing the postponement of the July 9th ‘Repeat or Revenge’ show at the Manchester Arena.

While there is some debate, it looks like the bout will now take place on October 29th at the same venue, almost a full year after Fury [25(18)-0] deposed the Ukrainian heavyweight king at the ESPRIT Arena in Duesseldorf.

Speaking from his camp in Bolton, where Tipperary’s Con Sheehan is among his sparring partners, The Gypsy King gave Boxnation an update.

Fury explained that he was “getting over it [the injury], I started back running at the beginning of the week, slowly.”

“The ankle should be back to full capacity by October 29th.”

“I’m weighing about 19st 8/9lbs so I’ve got less than a stone to lose and I’ve got fifteen weeks to lose it.”

“We go into serious training around about twelve weeks out.”

The Manchester-born giant refuses to be downbeat about the injury, and reasoned that “I believe everything happens for a reason”

“It happened because it wanted to happen.”

He joked that “it wasn’t frustrating, I only spent 30 or 40 grand on training camps, sparring partners, hotels, flights.”

“It’s only money, you win some you lose some.”

“I’ve had plenty of fights cancelled on me so it’s about time I cancelled on somebody else!”

Fury is bullish ahead of his return inning with Klitschko [64(53)-4(3)] and feels that he has a mental edge over the long-reigning former champ, noting how “I’ve done a Doctor of Psychology [Klitschko] in mind games, and I beat him, so what does that make me? A Professor”

On the fight itself, the 27 year old is his usual expressive self and predicts that “I’m going to remove his jaw from his head.”

“He’s going to be picking his ribs up off the floor.”

“I’m going to be victorious again.”

“Then I’m going to go to New York and drink all the Guinness and whiskey that is in New York then I’m going to go Orlando and spend some time with my kids and wife.”
