Tyson Fury to fight in Ireland NEXT

Former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury [26(19)-0] will fight in Ireland this Summer.

The Manchester-born man mountain made his return from over two-and-a-half years out last night, stopping the vastly overmatched Sefer Seferi in four rounds.

Immediately after the quite farcical fight at the Manchester Arena it was confirmed that the former Irish champion will fight on the big Carl Frampton Windsor Park card in Belfast on Saturday August 18th.

Both of Fury’s parents were born in Ireland, his father hailing from Galway and his mother being from Belfast, and the 29-year-old spent large portions of his childhood here.

While in Ireland he boxed for both Holy Family GG in Belfast and Smithboro BC in Monaghan as well as representing the country internationally.

As a pro, ‘The Gypsy King’ has fought here four times, once in Dublin and thrice in Belfast – including an Irish title win over Martin Rogan at the Odyssey in 2012.

Fury sensationally won the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles in Dusseldorf back in November 2015 when he dethroned Wladimir Klitschko but underwent a period of turmoil following this. Last night saw his long awaited return under new trainer Ben Davidson and promoter Frank Warren.

Still somewhat out of shape, although far fitter than he had been during his exile, the equally charismatic and controversial character was largely in exhibition mode versus Albanian Seferi – with the fight being received quite poorly from fans and commentators alike.

An Windsor Park opponent for Fury – and indeed headliner Frampton – is still to be confirmed.

The big card, as was last night, will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
