Tyson Fury sends fight day message to Anthony Joshua ahead of Klitschko clash
In a moment of candour, former undefeated heavyweight champion Tyson Fury [25(18)-0] has this afternoon given his backing to Anthony Joshua ahead of the Londoner’s big heavyweight title fight tonight.
IBF champion Joshua takes on Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium on a massive pay-per-view where he will look to add the WBA belt to his collection.
Fury defeated Klitschko in November 2015 to end the Eastern European’s dominance of heavyweight boxing and win the Lineal, IBF, WBA, and WBO titles.
That night in Duesseldorf, following months of mind games, the larger Fury outsmarted and negated Klitchko to claim a unanimous decision win.
Former Irish champion Fury has not fought since, with a range of issues seeing him either be stripped or vacate his titles.
The Manchester-born big man, whose parents hail from Galway and Belfast, has recently returned to training in Marbella ahead of a mooted return on June 8th on the Billy Joe Saunders v Avtandil Khurtsidze bill.
The past couple of weeks have seen the 28 year old trade insults with ‘Flex’ Joshua.
However, on the day of the big fight, Fury posted a social media message wishing the 2012 Olympic gold medalist the best of luck ahead of tonight’s action – as well as stating his desire for a showdown in the future.
In a video released on his Instagram account, Fury said “this is a message for AJ – Anthony Joshua: I just want to say good luck tonight pal, do the business on this Ukrainian pr*ck, knock him spark out. I wish you all the luck in the World.
“Let’s make the biggest fight in British boxing history happen, the real biggest fight, you know how it is – between The Gypsy King and AJ Anthony Joshua. Get through this tonight and let’s do it.”
“God bless you both, and I hope you both make it out of the ring safe and sound to your families. Good luck boys, all the best, and may the best man win.”
