Tyson Fury Eyeing World Title Shot After Tom Schwarz Contest

Tyson Fury makes his return to the ring next month when he meets Tom Schwarz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Nevada. It the former world champion’s first appearance since he drew with Deontay Wilder last December in an epic contest for the WBC title.

If he comes through the test against the German, Fury will be hoping to line up a world title shot against either Wilder or Anthony Joshua for as early as September, with the UK and USA the likely destinations for either contest.

Schwarz is having his 25th contest since turning pro in what will be the toughest fight of his career so far. The 24-year-old is unbeaten though, and currently holds the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title where he is ranked as high as number two with the organisation, ahead of Fury who is third.

Joshua Set For US Debut Next Month

Fury is very keen on securing a fight with the WBA, IBF and WBO world champion Anthony Joshua in what would be a huge contest in the UK. Joshua though, is set to face to Andy Ruiz Jr next in what will be his debut in the United States.

Joshua was scheduled to face Jarrell Miller who is unbeaten as a professional, however, he was suspended from the sport after testing positive for a banned substance. Ruiz Jr was brought in as a late replacement in what will be his second shot at a world title.

The Californian lost to Joseph Parker in New Zealand in 2016 where a majority decision was needed by the home boxer after 12 tough rounds. Since then, Ruiz Jr has won all three of his bouts in the ring, including his latest success coming last month against Alexander Dimitrenko.

The defending champion is the odds-on favourite at 1/33 in the Joshua v Ruiz Jr betting, Wilder Rematch More Likely For Fury

Wilder Rematch More Likely For Fury

Arguably the most likely chance Fury will get at a world title shot will be a rematch with Wilder. The WBC belt holder did state he was keen to meet the former IBF champion again in order to put the record straight against him.

Wilder put Fury down twice in the first contest, including in the 12th round where Fury looked to be in real trouble, before making the 10 count which ensured he avoided defeat. Given how entertaining the first meeting was, there is sure to be a huge interest is the US and UK for a rematch.

The Bronze Bomber recently defended his title against Dominic Breazeale after beating his fellow American opponent in the first round. That was Wilder’s 41st win of his professional career and he brought his KO record up to 40.

Fury’s team will be pushing for either Joshua or Wilder next but in order for either of those fights to be made, he must impress in his latest appearance against Schwarz who must not be underestimated.
