Tyson Fury back training – 2017 return earmarked

Tyson Fury is back training and looks set for a Spring return according to his coach and Uncle Peter Fury.

Fury defeated the then-linear world champion Wladimir Klitschko in Duesseldorf in November of 2015 to claim the unified heavyweight crown, but hasn’t fought since.

A succession of outside-the-ring issues dogged Fury in the months that followed and culminated in his withdrawal from a rematch with Klitschko, which after being refixed was scheduled for October 29th in Manchester.

The fighter, then regarded as the best heavyweight on the planet, took a sabbatical due to mental health issues. As a result the former Irish Champion relinquished his titles and watched on as other heavyweights stole the limelight at the tail end of 2016.

However, the giant stablemate of Tipperary’s Con Sheehan, is back in the gym according to Peter Fury and has his sights set on returning to the ring in April or May.

Speaking to 4C Sports Media Peter Fury said “Tyson could be a good ambassador for depression. It got hold of the heavyweight champion of the World, with everything to look forward to and everything to fight for. I think he was grossing seven or eight million pounds for a fight. Money doesn’t matter, his health matters and his state of mind. He took a back seat from it all and relieved himself of various pressures and as we speak no he is with his brother and father training everyday. Expect Tyson in the gym around April or May next year.”

The current state of the heavyweight division sees Deontay Wilder hold the WBC belt, Joseph Parker posses the WBO belt, and Anthony Joshua hold the IBF belt. Joshua will look to add Fury’s vacated WBA belt to his collection when he faces Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium next April.
