Ohara Davies labels Tyrone McKenna his “least favourite” fighter

He had heated, sometimes unsavoury, build-ups with both Derry Mathews and Josh Taylor, and has often had some vicious verbal battles with Robbie Davies Jr – but an Irish boxer takes the crown of being Ohara Davies’s least favourite fighter.

Belfast light welter McKenna [16(6)-0-1] has been calling for a fight with the controversial Londoner for almost a year and a half and has gone from being dismissed off-hand to being a genuine rival.

Davies [16(13)-1(1)] this year has become a managerial stablemate of McKenna and has also linked up with promoter Frank Warren.

With a fight with Lenadoon southpaw becoming increasingly feasible, Davies has revealed that ‘The Mighty Celt’ is his number one most disliked fighter.

As part of a promotional Q&A, Davies answered “least favourite fighter? Tyrone McKenna, he’s a bum who talks a lot of shit.”

Davies fights for the first time under his new arrangement on Saturday night, shaking off rust versus Frenchman Christopher Sebire on the Selby-Warrington undercard in Leeds before a big fight with Josh Leather on June 23rd in London on the Saunders-Murray undercard.

McKenna faces Dublin rival Phil Sutcliffe Jr on the Mick Conlan homecoming card in Dublin on June 30th and the respective schedules would seem to line up so that win, lose, or draw, a fight between McKenna and Davies could happen later this year.
