Tyrone McCullagh predicts early night for comedian Joe Ham

Tyrone McCullagh [10(6)-0] claims he will make a liar of the record book papers and knock out Joe Ham within six rounds on the Michael Conlan Homecoming card in Belfast on June 30th.

‘White Chocolate’ takes on the Scot for the vacant BBBofC Celtic super bantamweight title on an action packed BT Sports broadcast undercard late next month.

Glaswegian Ham [14(5)-0] will come to Belfast with a relatively impressive record boasting four more wins than the Derry favourite but McCullagh warned fight fans not to pay too much heed to how the two fighters compare on BoxRec.

The European bronze medallist, who has dispatched his common opponents with Ham with far greater efficiency, believes the British title eliminator will not be a competitive one.

The 27-year-old is adamant that, despite having less victories, he is the better fighter than the Scot and predicted he will win the fight inside six rounds.

“He’s 14-0 and I’m 10-0 and on paper it looks like a really good fight but, in reality, I know I’m going to knock him out on the night within six rounds,” said McCullagh

Ham is currently training in Los Angeles so was not present at the press conference to have his say – although did take aim at McCullagh online.

It’s set up to be an intriguing fight and McCullagh is delighted to be back in action at the SSE Odyssey Arena – his third visit and hopefully first televised.

The June 30th title fight – which McCullagh first called for via Irish-Boxing over a year ago – certainly gives the Foylesider an opportunity to move his career to the next level.

However, he seems to be aware that not only has he the chance to increase his stock but can raise his profile on a TV broadcast card that ‘the whole country has been waiting for’.

“It’s unbelievable. I fought in the Carl Frampton bill and to be back out again so soon on this bill is fantastic,” he added.

“I think the whole country’s been waiting for the Conlan homecoming since he went pro, since the Rio Olympics and just look at the undercard, it’s a fantastic undercard and it’s going to be an absolutely amazing night,” the Derry man continued before heaping praise on Belfast.

“Belfast is the capital of boxing in Ireland. There’s no other place to be for boxing and it’s just getting better and better as time goes on.”
