Turner: Working with Fury will help me in land of the giants

WORKING with Tyson Fury will ensure Sean Turner will be able to compete in the land of the giants and become a heavyweight of note, says the former Irish amateur champion, himself.

Turner might be know as ‘Big Sexy’ but at just ‘511’ is something a small guy in the world of modern heavyweight punching. The current crop of heavy’s are more giant than big with reach heights of 6’5 and over.

Giving such reach and height advantages away are nothing new for the Dublin prospect, but he admits it isn’t ideal. However, the Fury’s Gym signing believes working with one of the best big men on the planet will ensure he will be capable of negating the physical advantages of a taller foe come fight time.

“Fighting tall lads is nothing new to me. I have fought lots of guys bigger than me and knock out some too,” Turner told Irish-boxing.com.

“Working with Tyson, who I believe will be heavyweight champion of the World very soon, does help. I am not just sparing a big man I am sparring the best of the big men. Believe me it is tough against him. Four rounds with Tyson is like eight rounds with any other heavyweight. He uses his size well not just his reach advantage, but putting that big frame on you in the clinches.

“It really is great sparring for me and I learn how to deal with the big lads, close the space and let them taste the power I have.”

Turner has four wins on his CV since turning pro last year and is keen to get busy over the summer. He hopes to announce a July fight date soon and is keen to get on the next Prizefighter The Heavyweights fight night.

“I hope to have a fight in July and I want to get on the next Prizefighter. I will walk my through that, collect a nice check and increase my profile. I would win that with three knockouts,” he concluded.
