Top Irish Ring Announcer aiming to become next Matchroom MC

Ireland’s premier ring announced has thrown his name in the hat for Matchroom’s MC Academy.

Popular Dublin MC Terry Kavanagh has submitted an entry for the big competition which is seeking to find a new full-time ring announcer for Matchroom and the Sky Sports platform.

Kavanagh will be familiar to Irish fight fans as the master of ceremonies for both the ‘Celtic Clash’ series and shows from Red Corner Promotions.

Partner of Dancing With The Stars Ireland contestant Erin McGregor (sister of UFC megastar Conor), Kavanagh has been a fixture on the Irish fight circuit over the years and is also involved in kickboxing and mixed martial arts events.

The Matchroom MC Academy has called for entries before the end of February from which a shortlist of ten will be chosen. The ten will then head to Sky Sports where they will be whittled down to three. This trio will undergo a masterclass session with the legendary Michael Buffer before getting on the mic themselves at a Matchroom public workout. It’s then all up to a public vote, with the winner receiving the dream prize.

For Kavanagh though, going by the competition’s terms and conditions, there looks to be a minor roadblock. The Irish announcer would appear to be ineligible as he lives outside the UK, however it is hoped that an exception could be made.
