Top Crumlin amateur turns pro

JB Management and Promotions have announced their second new signing of the week.

The Dublin outfit have confirmed that they will turn former top Crumlin amateur Martin Wall pro ahead of their first show this Summer.

Welterweight Wall won multiple all-Ireland titles as an amateur, most notably the U21 crown in 2011 and the 2013 Intermediate championships as well as numerous Irish Colleges titles for DIT.

Part of an amateur crop that included the likes of current pros Crank Whitehouse, Shortty Carroll, Rohan Daté, and Noely Murphy, Wall moved to Elite level but would leave boxing to focus on full-time work.

A friend of JB boss Jay Byrne, Wall came back to the sport in late 2016, seemingly as a once-off, to feature on Byrne’s inaugural Semi-Pro Boxing Ireland card, winning his fight.

A vocal and engaged member of the Irish boxing community, Wall has been a keen onlooker and supporter of fights and fighters from world title to small hall level and, after numerous enquiries, has decided to finally have a go at the pro game himself.

Wall is the latest fighter to have come through Phil Sutcliffe’s Crumlin BC at some stage to turn professional and joins the likes of Phil Sutcliffe Jr, Luke Keeler, Declan Geraghty, Tony Senior, Owen Duffy, Aiden Metcalfe, and Martin Quinn in the paid game.

The signing comes a day after Bray middleweight Eddie Treacy was announced, and Byrne said that Wall is “another signing that doesn’t want to wait around and, after one or two fights will be involved in some domestic dust-ups.”

“A very good signing and will be in exciting fights.”

Also in Byrne’s stable currently is Monkstown super featherweight Karl Kelly [1(0)-1(0)] and all four, alongside many more, are expected to feature on the inaugural JB and Assassin Boxing card this Summer which will formally be announced at a press conference at the National Stadium on Thursday April 26th at 5:00pm.
