Title-chasing Tim Cronin chats to Irish-Boxing ahead of Toronto clash

Irish-Canadian light heavyweight Tim Cronin [7(2)-1(0)-1] is in action tonight in Toronto.

‘The Irish’ Cronin fights in his home city at the Danforth Music Hall in a six-round bout on a card headlined by top Canadian prospect Steve Wilcox, and he took some time out of his preparations to speak to Irish-Boxing.com about his Irish links and his future plans.

There is plenty of Munster blood coursing through the veins of the 32 year old fighter, with his family hailing from Cork and Kerry.

A self-described box-puncher, Cronin takes on Slovak Kristof Demendi [10(6)-1(0)-2] tonight, and he explained how the Central European “should be one of the toughest I have faced yet, he will be a bit heavier and has a bit more experience on me.”

“But I will use my boxing ability and keep him at bay.”

“Growing up I always watched and tried to mimic Roy Jones Jr and Tommy Hearns, but now I would say I am more veering towards Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev.”

A real crowd-favourite in a city full of Irish emigrants and diaspora, Cronin described how “the Irish community here in Toronto are huge supporters of me.”

“It really means a lot to know there are lots of the Irish supporters here in Toronto.”

Title-eligible, and having stepped up his level of opposition over the last eighteen months, Cronin is anticipating a big end to 2016 and confidently states that “I definitely want the Canadian title.”

“I plan to get more exposure by getting some fights in the United States and maybe abroad to help improve my career as a fighter. ”

“I see a title fight coming this year.”
