Three silvers guaranteed at European Junior Championships

By Bernard O’Neill – IABA Press Officer

Terry Donoghue, Jack Conroy and Edward Donovan upgraded their bronze medals to at least silver at the European Junior Championships in Hungary today.

The Irish trio produced big performances to beat Armenian, Georgian and French opponents to book their tickets into Saturday’s finals in Kaposvar.

Martin McDonagh had to settle from bronze this afternoon after losing out to Russia’s Ilia Popov.

But the Cork flyweight asked some serious questions of the current AIBA World Junior champion over three rounds in one of the fights of the tournament.

The Irish coaching staff and management hailed the performances of all four Irish athletes in action today,

Saturday’s finals begin at 2pm (Irish time).

Team Ireland are due home on Sunday evening at 7.30pm via Budapest – Flight T2B (BUD) (Terminal 1)
