Thomas Finnegan responds to claims he “bottled” Ireland’s Last Man Standing

Thomas Finnegan [2(0)-0] has responded to claims that he was one of a number of Irish fighters to “bottle” entering Ireland’s Last Man Standing.

The Tallaght middleweight was announced last month as one of the eight competitors in the big-money tournament set for March 3rd at the National Stadium.

Finnegan was a late addition to the line-up, coming in as a replacement for an unnamed withdrawal who later confirmed himself to be Tony Senior.

However, within a week it emerged that ‘Victorious’ would not be one of the eight competing for the guaranteed top prize of at least €25,000, live on TG4.

Alongside Padraig McCrory and Henry Coyle, Finnegan announced that he would not be fighting on the Prizefighter-style format.

Conor Slater of Assassin Boxing, who co-promote the event, said that Finnegan, alongside Coyle and McCrory, pulled out after seeing the line-up.

The Jobstown puncher is not happy with these accusations, and told Irish-Boxing.com that “I shy away from no fighter, it’s my career and I have other things to be concentrating on.”

“I was never in the tournament in the first place. I am scared of no fighter in this industry.”

The Tony Davitt-trained fighter is hoping for a big 2018, and outlined how “I am trying to set a plan in place for this year ahead and hope to get a chance for a BUI Celtic title then push on for domestic fights.”

“I’m back training now. I’ll take my time, hopefully two or three fights this year, I don’t have a specific date as yet but should be made soon.”

“I will fight them all when I step up in my category middle weight or light middle weight.”

The Last Man Standing line-up now comprises of Chris Blaney, Roy Sheahan, Alfredo Meli, Bernard Roe, Jordan Latimer, Nick Quigley, Sean McGlinchey, and Ger Healy.
