The real Million Dollar Baby – Hearn backs Taylor to make pay day history

Eddie Hearn believes he will have to dip his hand into pocket and make Katie Taylor [13(6)-0] the real Million Dollar Baby.

The three belt world champion’s promoter predicts the Bray native will become the first woman boxer to be paid a million dollars for a fight.

Since graduating to world title level, Taylor has been raking in six figures per fight. The Olympic gold medal winner has already revealed her current purses are exceeding all expectations, but the Matchroom boss predicts they will increase further.

Hearn claims the Brian Peters-managed fighter is already the worlds best paid female fighter of all time- and stresses that he value will only increase if she overcomes Delfine Persoon [43(18)-1(1)] to become undisputed world champion at Madison Square Garden this Saturday night.

“At the start of her professional career, Katie wasn’t on big money,” he said.

“But what she’s making now is very different. And that will go up significantly over the next six months. In the not too distant future, she’ll be making seven figures. She’s already by far the highest-paid fighter in women’s boxing history.”

The reigning WBA, IBF and WBO world champ hasn’t been the only one to benefit financially from her popularity and ability and ability to draw numbers.

Persoon’s purse for this weeks DAZN and Sky Sports-broadcast fight – said to be around $200,000 – dwarves any pay she received during a nine-year reign as world champion.

Taylor’s opponents regularly smash their career best purses when they sign to fight her and some even benefit further despite defeat. With a raised profile former foe Jessica McCaskil secured a Martchroom contract post her defeat to the undisputed hopeful and has gone on to become a unified champion.

Then there is her most recent opponent Rose Volante who, after holding out for a prolonged period, used her bumper purse to buy a home in Brazil for her mother.
