‘The Massacre is coming for you’ – Heavy-handed Basheel sets her sight on Katie Taylor

Anisha Basheel is coming to London this weekend to set up a fight with Katie Taylor.

The Malawian faces Chantelle Cameron on an #MTKFightNight in a final eliminator for one of the undisputed champions four light world titles.

Victory over the former Team GB star would make ‘The Massacre’ mandatory for the London 2012 Olympic gold medal winner’s WBC world title.

The same applies for the Jamie Moore-trained former Cyclone Promotions puncher, but despite targeting Taylor previously, Cameron has elected against making the undisputed champion the narrative of Saturday’s clash.

The same can not be said of Commonwealth super featherweight champion Basheel, who certainly has Taylor on her mind.

“Fans can expect me to show that I’m the true lightweight champion of the world. Katie Taylor – you’re next! ‘The Massacre’ is coming for you too,” she said ahead of this weekend’s bout.

“Meeting Taylor is what every female lightweight wants right now because the dream is to be a unified world champion. It doesn’t get any bigger than that – it’s the ultimate.

“Beating Cameron is just a key to opening the big door. My eyes are on the big prize and Cameron is just a bridge to walk over on my way to beating Katie,” she adds before suggesting she would like Taylor to watch from a ringside vantage point – something that won’t happen as the world champion is in America preparing for an Autumn return.

“I hope Taylor shows up on the night to see what she’s going to go up against. I look forward to meeting her. I’m going to knock Cameron out and then I’m going to take her belts.”

Having lost her first five fights Basheel comes to London on the back of an eight fight knock out winning streak. Considering the majority of her fights have played out in Malawi and away from public glare it would be easy to suggest she hasn’t beaten anyone of note.

However, she stopped Sam ‘SJ’ Smith in York Hall last time out to claim the Commonwealth title and looks a credible threat.

Cameroon still remains favourite to secure victory and is a name Team Taylor have dropped as a potential future foe of note – and with some confusion as to who will provide opposition when she returns Stateside in the Autumn a win on Saturday for Cameron could put her right in the frame.
