‘The deal is done. It’s signed’ – Katie Taylor’s next opponent revealed?

Team Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] want ‘the mega fight’ with Amanda Seranno [36(27)-1-1] next and claim they have a contract to fight the seven weight world champion.

The controversial Puerto Rican has been linked to the undisputed lightweight world champion for over a year now – and both fighters argue a fight between the pair would be the biggest in women’s boxing today.

However, despite reportedly signing a three fight deal with DAZN that had a ‘fight Katie Taylor’ clause, Serrano has been a bit indifferent when commenting on the fight.

The Brooklyn native and current WBO super flyweight world champion has been calling for the fight to be made in recent weeks and requesting the right deal and the right amount of money be put on the table.

Yet, Taylor’s manager Brian Peters claims the contract with an agreed purse has already been signed.

“The deal is done, it is signed. We have agreed and she has agreed and I have seen the contract so I don’t know what more we can do,” Peters told Balls.ie.

“I’ve seen the contract that she’s signed. Lou DiBella, her promoter, signed it. He has promotional rights. Eddie [Hearn] and I’ve gone through it and I’ve seen it. And obviously, we’ve agreed it on our side. As far as I’m concerned, if she has some dispute with her manager or promoter, I don’t know anything about that.”

There have been calls for a rematch with Persoon, but despite claiming a repeat is inevitable Peters has been clear he believes that is one for the future.

Team Taylor would like Serrano next, but the younger sister Cindy Serrano, a fighter whitewashed by Taylor last year, has to take part in fight two of that three fight contract before she is obliged to get in with the Olympic gold medal winner.

“Amanda Serrano is our preferred choice this year. She has to have one more fight and she has signed. The deal is done, the purse is agreed. She has signed. A three-fight deal, she has had one fight, she is due one more and then the next fight she has to fight Katie Taylor. She is a very good fighter too.”

It may prove difficult for all that to fall into place and Serrano to be ready for September or October time – the time frame Taylor states she will fight next. So there have been whispers of Heather Hardy in New York in what the Americans call Fall followed by a massive Christmas Serrano cracker.
