The Boxing World’s Divided Reaction to Tyrone McKenna’s win over Lewis Benson


Padraig McCrory probably said it best:

Last night, Tyrone McKenna scored a one-point (96-95) win over Scottish rival Lewis Benson on the big BoxNation show in Glasgow.

A toe-to-toe brawl throughout, the heavier shots of McKenna were seemingly rewarded above the work rate and counter-punching of Benson and ‘The Mighty Celt’ got the points win to kick-start his career following a loss to Jack Catterall during the summer.

The verdict led to much debate, with many disagreeing with the result of the show-stealing scrap at the Emirates Arena.

Following the win, McKenna [17(6)-1(0)-1] was congratulated by his fellow Irish fighters:

Many boxers, however, felt that Benson [12(2)-2(0)] had done enough to win:

Boxing media types, too, felt that Benson deserved the nod.
