Tevin Farmer fully focused on James Tennyson fight as Gervonta Davis talk continues

He can’t stop talking about two time super featherweight world champion Gervonta Davis but Tevin Farmer [26(5)-4(2)-1] is adamant is he isn’t overlooking the challenge of James Tennyson ahead of their world title fight this weekend.

The IBF 130lbs champion puts his title on the line against Tennyson, a fighter with title upset and stoppage history, at the TD Garden in Boston in a matter of days but seems to be fielding more questions on the controversial Floyd Mayweather protégé than the man from Belfast.

‘The American Idol’ hasn’t shied away from any Davis inquiries, with the Philidelphia fighter and his team openly discussing a unification clash.

Indeed, Farmer had even stated that he would drop out of the Tennyson [22(18)-2(2)] fight for a clash with ‘Tank’ Davis – before being set straight by co-promoter Lou DiBella

Fielding more questions on the Baltimore boxer, Farmer outlined how “I want to fight Gervonta Davis.”

“I have a title, I have a great contract, so I don’t need him — but I have to have that fight. There’s been a lot of talking but I am about handling business. We’ve talked enough, I want the fight so let’s make it happen.”

“There’s no more ‘get a title’ talk: there’s millions of dollars in that fight and it can be made. It’s one of the biggest fights in boxing. ”

Co-promoter Eddie Hearn, who has worked alongside Mark Dunlop with Tennyson for a number of fights, noted that “ultimately we have Tevin Famer and we want to make that fight with Gervonta Davis.”

However, despite the constant Davis talk, the Philly southpaw claims his focus in on the TD Garden on Saturday night.

Farmer is a favourite but not an overwhelming one ahead of his first title defence and is keen to get over the line at the home of the Boston Celtics and Bruins against a heavy-punching much-larger foe.

“I have a big fight on Saturday and I’m not overlooking James,” said Farmer.

You don’t get to this level for no reason and I know he’s going to come to fight and try to beat me, but that’s not going to be easy – he needs to make sure he brings his A-game.
