Team Rabei reveal compromised final offer to Niall O’Connor

Assassin Promotions have revealed that they have made a final compromised offer to Niall O’Connor for a big Dublin derby with Victor Rabei.

Ballybrack super feather O’Connor [5(4)-0] and Rathmichael light welter Rabei [6(2)-0] have been trading barbs online recently and it was said that an agreement was made where they would face off at lightweight.

This agreement, put forward by O’Connor, however, was merely a verbal one and some rather messy discussions would ensue..

Assassin, who would be promoting the fight, argue that the fight would need to take place at light welter [140lbs] – where Rabei holds the BUI Celtic title.

However, the outfit have softened on this stance and have revealed that they have offered a compromised take-it-or-leave-it deal to O’Connor and manager Tony Davitt where the Dublin duo would fight for Rabei’s belt at a 138lbs catchweight on a to-be-confirmed show.

‘Nasty Niall’ is understood to be adamant about the fight needing to take place at 135lbs [lightweight] meaning the parties are currently at a deadlock.

Assassin’s Conor Slater has told Irish-Boxing.com that O’Connor has rejected this offer of a 138lbs catchweight fight but that the deal remains on the table and that it is hoped that the Celtic Warriors prospect will reconsider.

Rabei won the secondary eight-round BUI title last summer, outpointing upcoming Irish lightweight title challenger Karl Kelly, and would return from a run of niggling injuries in December with a first-round stoppage win live on TG4 on the Ray Moylette Homecoming card.

As part of the off-TV undercard that night in Mayo, O’Connor claimed his third stoppage win of 2018 and the highly-rated prospect is keen to progress to all-Irish fights.
