Team Ireland beat England in England

Team Ireland beat England 4-3 win in Basingstoke last weekend.
Thomas Mongan very unlucky to go down to a 2-1 split decision to Joe Bayliss in the opening bout of the meeting.
Irish skipper James Cleary, pictured below with his opponent, was up next against 2014 England Youth champion and team captain Ben Smith.
Cleary put in a blistering performance to win 3-0 and level proceedings.
Lauren Hogan then edged the visitors 2-1 ahead before the interval with an impressive 3-0 decision over Serena Wybrow, the current English Junior champion.

 After the break, Rebecca O’Gorman stepped up to the occasion to beat England youth champion Jade Toogood 3-0.

Eunice Chaima reduced the deficit for the hosts after edging out Shane O’Neill 2-1, while Fergus Quinn boxed out of his skin to beat the highly fancied Zac Chelli 3-0, a performance that earned him the Best Male Boxer Award.
Last but not least, Cormac Long took on Ben Bendall and was very unlucky to lost out on a split decision after three rounds of a toe-to-toe contest.
Lauren Hogan scooped the Best Female Boxer Award last night.
“We are delighted to come home with the victory against the  English on their home soil, fantastic displays by all of team Ireland’s boxers,” said Irish coach Michael Mongan.
