Sutcliffe offers Connor his purse – “call yourself a fighter?”

“You’re a heartless fighter.”

Those are the words of Crumlin’s Phil Sutcliffe Jr to Danny Cassius Conor

Earlier today the English light welterweight took to social media to inform his followers that he had turned down a clash with the Dubliner due to, what he perceived as, an unacceptable amount of money offered.

Offering a solution to the problem, Sutcliffe proposed a winner-takes-all fight with both fighters offering up their purses and the victor of the mooted fight in Oldham on July 2nd taking the full pot.

MGM’s Connor however would refuse, arguing “I wouldn’t do that to you, I wouldn’t make you fight for free.”

The 30 year old former Prizefighter finalist proceeded to aim verbal jabs at Sutcliffe’s veteran manager, Pat Magee, for the initial offer, and claiming that the combined purses would be less than £2,000.

The normally reserved Sutcliffe would state, and restate, his willingness to fight and told Connor to “stop making excuses, you’re a heartless fighter.”

Connor has since noted that his team have secured him an alternate fight but is open to a Sutcliffe fight “down the line.”
