Super Featherweight title challenger calls out Carl Frampton

A prominently placed super featherweight has thrown his name into the ring to be Carl Frampton‘s Windsor Park homecoming opponent.

Former two-weight champion Frampton [23(14)-1(0)] makes his return to Belfast after almost two and a half years this Summer, however an opponent is still to be confirmed.

Eyebrows were raised last week when Frampton was reclassified in the WBA rankings, moving from featherweight to super featherweight and entering the 130lbs ladder at #2.

The organisation’s #1 boxer has now come out to say that he is willing to face ‘The Jackal,’ with the winner going on to face WBA champion Jezreel Corrales.

This boxer is Costa Rican Bryan Vazquez [35(19)-2(1)]. The bullish Central American was stopped in the eighth by former champion Takashi Uchiyama in a title challenge back in 2012. Since then he has also been beaten by Javier Fortuna, but holds numerous wins over solid contenders.

29 year old Vazquez said he is “ready, willing and able to meet Carl Frampton this summer in Belfast, Ireland at Windsor Park in either July or August.”

“Let’s make this fight happen Frampton. We are the two highest ranking contenders by the WBA at 130lbs.”

“We both want a shot at the current champion, who will be defending his title in July against a guy with a dozen losses [Robinson Castellanos].”
