Steven Ward to make Mexican step-up on Belfast BoxNation bill

Steven Ward [8(3)-0] will make a step up to ten rounds next month.

The Newtownabbey light heavyweight features on the Belfast BoxNation bill at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on Friday October 5th, and has, this afternoon had his opponent confirmed.

The Quiet Man will face Mexican Rolando Paredes [15(11)-7(3)-2] over ten rounds on the Belfast docks

Turning pro as a teenager, Paredes compiled a 8-1-2 record before being stopped in the first round in 2012 by future IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui. Following this loss he was out of the ring for three years and has gone 7-5 since his return.

This run includes a WBC FECARBOX (Central American) title and a WBC FECOMBOX (Mexican) light heavyweight title. While these wins came at 175lbs, Parebas has fought mostly in lower weight categories and won a middleweight contest last month.

Ward stepped up to eight rounds just seven weeks ago when he outpointed Dubliner Steve Collins Jr at Windsor Park to win the BUI Celtic title. The Commonwealth silver medallist was back in camp almost immediately at the VIP Gym just outside Manchester.

The card in two weeks time is headlined by BBBoC Celtic super bantamweight champion Tyrone McCullagh who boxes English titlist Josh Kennedy, a BUI Celtic welterweight title defence from Jay Byrne versus Paddy Gallagher, and a fight between Belfast super featherweight Marco McCullough and two-time EU champion Ruddy Encarnacion, as well as appearances from Conrad Cummings, Sean McComb, Steven Donnelly, Padraig McCrory, Gary Cully, and World-rated Aussie feather Nathaniel May – who is of Belfast stock.
