Spike O’Sullivan has signed a contract to ‘smash up Lemieux’

Spike O’Sullivan claims he has signed a deal to fight former world champion David Lemieux on the massive Gennady Golovkin-Saul Alvarez card.

The big-punching seek-and -destroy merchants have flirted with the possibility of trading heavy leather on September 15, but the Cork middle says he has put pen to paper and agreed to the fight.

The Paschal Collins-trained 33-year-old was already confirmed on the card but said he wouldn’t give the Canadian the opportunity to move into Alvarez or ‘GGG’ pole on the undercard of the biggest fight of 2018 after Lemieux initially rebuffed his own call outs.

However, having been goaded by the former IBF title holder the mustached Mahon man accepted the challenge and via social media warned Lemieux to ‘be careful what you fucking wish for’.

Then speaking to Pundit Arena O’Sullivan revealed he has agreed to the fight signing a contract to get it on with his fellow knock out artist.

Indeed, Mahon’s middleweight favourite claims the fight will be officially announced should the Canadian agree terms.

“So I signed the contract. I’m just waiting on him to agree a purse with Golden Boy and I expect an announcement soon,” he said before claiming he will do a better job on the known name than unified champ Golovkin.

“I’m excited by this fight. I’m looking to make a statement, smash up Lemieux – do what Billy Joe Saunders couldn’t do and knock him out. I’m looking to knock him out faster than Golovkin did as well.”

“I’m looking to make a real statement by beating him better than the current world champions did.”

Indeed, the fighter who, at 33m is reaching peak performance levels foresees a scenario where he beats Lemieux before taking GGG’s 0 and titles before bringing massive name Canelo to Cork.

“If Golovkin won the rematch and I fought him and beat him and then fought Canelo in Ireland, that would be a great thing. It’d be very do-able too.”

“Golden Boy have said in the past that they are keen on coming to Ireland. Pairc Ui Chaoimh has always been my dream.”
