Spike O’Sullivan ready to return on special stage

Co-headlining the big Murphys Boxing card in Boston tomorrow night will be none other than Spike O’Sullivan [23(15)-2(1)].

The Cork middleweight fights in an eight rounder at the House of Blues, returning to the ring for the first time since last September, and he is looking to springboard into big fights from here

It’s been slightly too long for 32 year old O’Sullivan, although he notes that he has been busy these past few months.

The Celtic Warriors Gym man told Irish-Boxing.com that “I would have liked a fight in between, but I’ve also been busy with the new arrival in my family – baby Thomas Spike O’Sullivan – so maybe it was better I didn’t fight, as be totally committed to training wouldn’t have been easy!”

“I’ve been working really hard on the technical side of my boxing too. I’m hoping to showcase some of that.”

It’s a special time of the year for O’Sullivan too, who explained that “Paddy’s Weekend is the weekend I got engaged at a Dropkick Murphys concert and to fight the same night as a Dropkick Murphys concert will mean a lot to me and bring back great memories of a great night.”

The man in the opposite corner tomorrow night will be Colombian Ronald Montes [17(15)-6(5)]. O’Sullivan described how “I know that he can punch. He has 15 KOs in his 17 wins. I expect him to come out looking for the KO but I’ve never been knocked out so I expect to catch him when he is trying to catch me.”

Should, as expected, O’Sullivan prevail over Montes, the social media savvy fighter is planning to restart one of his more notable campaigns.

With Olympic bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo looking to make a return to the ring following his devastating defeat to Craig Cunningham, and O’Sullivan would still like to fight the Norwich man.

“I see Onono [Ogogo] is making a comeback,” the Leesider noted. “Let’s see if he has the guts to back up his cheap talk and attempt to redeem his boxing career by fighting me.”
