Spike O’Suillivan not keen on facing David Lemieux following previous rejection

You had your chance.

That’s Spike O’Sullivan‘s message to former world champion David Lemieux.

The Cork middleweight is currently preparing for his chief support slot for the middleweight title rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 15th.

Eyeing up the high-profile slot and the associated rewards, Lemieux last week stated his desire to face his Golden Boy stablemate.

The big punching Canadian, whose last two defeats have come against, Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders, asked the Mahon middle not to ‘chicken out’ so the pair can ‘give the fans a fight for September’.

The promotional situation means that it would be easy to make and a clash between two aggressive come forward fighters would certainly bring value to what promises to the biggest fight night of 2018.

Camille Estephan, Lemieux’s manager, has stated that talks are ongoing – however, the Celtic Warrior Gym fighter notes how he was knocked back by the same fighter previously previously so he wants to respond in kind.

O’Sullivan explained to Bernard O’Neill how “I looked to fight him before and he didn’t give me the opportunity. At the time he ended up fighting Billy Joe Saunders I fought on the undercard.”

“He’s a possibility but I wouldn’t like to give him the chance to tell the truth.”.

With a potential fight with the winner of GGG, Alvarez it may be sensible not to take a risk, but according to Team O’Sullivan the middleweight will fight a bonafide name faces dangerous test regardless.

The Cork man is aware a challenge awaits and clams that victory on September 15th would lead to the Paschal Collins-trained fighter facing the winner of the main event – and, as a result, the 33-year-old is promising to be at his peak come the Autumn.

“I will be 100pc on fight night, without doubt. I’ll get the winner of Canelo and Golovkin after that. That’s the agreement I have.”

“It’s a massive fight for me and for my family, it’s life-changing.”
