A ton of pressure! Spike brings record breaking punch power into massive fight

When Gary O’Sullivan says he brings a half ton of pressure into the ring with him on Saturday night he isn’t talking about a burden that could hamper him.

The Cork middleweight is just days shy of a massive fight on a massive card. The Murphy’s Boxing middleweight would be forgiven for feeling nerves considering he appears live on HBO in chief support to the big David Lemieux vs Billy Joe Saunders fight in Canada this Saturday.

Victory over Golden Boys’s Antoine Douglas could also open massive doors for ‘Spike’ with a fight with the winner of Gennady Golovkin and Saul Alvarez been earmarked as possible by Oscar De La Hoya.

Regardless ‘Spike’ claims he isn’t feeling the pressure, in fact he claims he will be dishing it out by the ton this weekend.

The Paschal Collins trained fighter is in confident mood and says he has scientific proof he will be the most powerful puncher on display on the entire Place Bell in Laval, Quebec hosted card.

O’Sullivan points out he can hit with a record breaking 1100 pounds of pressure, suggesting the pressure will be on Douglas in more ways than one when they trade blows.

“When I fought on the undercard of James Degale and (Andre)Dirrell I had these sport science guys put these pads on my hand,” he explained to Irish-boxing.com.

“They came into me after the fight telling me not to cut it off. They said I broke a record the hardest punch they recorded in a live fight. The record previous was a light heavyweight Adonis Stevens and he is a world champions. The punch was over 1100 pounds of pressure, they asked me which shot did it, i thought it was the knock out punch, but they said it was a body shot just prior to that.”
