Sparring partner: Jamie Cox knocks out Eubank Jr inside three

Andrew Robinson [18(6)-1(0)] takes on Sam Sheedy in a Commonwealth light middleweight title eliminator next Saturday in Rotherham, and the Redditch puncher has been availing of some top class sparring from former Irish champ Frankie Gavin and Jamie Cox.

Robinson, whose only loss came in a slugfest with former Celtic Warrior Frank Buglioni, has been particularly impressed with the power of Cox.

The former Commonwealth light middleweight champ of Donegal descent is now campaigning at 168lbs and has been continually tipped for World honours, a sentiment echoed by Robinson who argues that “Jamie, for me, is a world champion in waiting.”

Cox [20(12)-0] became something of an internet sensation among boxing aficionados following footage of his destructive spar with Olympic silver medalist EEsquiva Falcão and Robinson can vouch for the Swindon’s southpaw’s power explaining that “His power is horrendous, I’ve got one of the best chins in the business and I’ve needed it.”

“He’s a knockout artist and just wants to take your head off.”

“You’ve got to be smart to go anywhere near him, so I can’t go in gung-ho like I have done in the past. When he hits you, you stay hit.”

“I can tell you know that getting hit by Jamie, with 16oz gloves on, was far harder than Buglioni ever caught me.

Indeed he believes that if Cox were to cross paths with Chris Eubank Jr, it would not turn out well for the British middleweight champion, and notes that “I think Jamie would knock Eubank out in three rounds, people just don’t understand the power this man possesses.”

“No one wants to fight Jamie and I don’t think anyone wants to spar him either!”

Andrew Robinson v Sam Sheedy takes place next Saturday at the Magna Centre in Rotherham.
