Sonny Upton to finally fight for title later this month

Sonny Upton [12(5)-2(1)] will look to join his two boxing brothers and claim a domestic belt later this month.

The Belfast light middleweight had been in line for an English title shot for a long time against Ben Hall, but will now face Matthew Ryan [12(2)-0] for the belt.

Like his younger brother Anto did against Luke Paddock, Sonny will travel to hostile territory to take on local lad Ryan on a Black Flash Promotions bill at the Bowlers Arena in Manchester on Friday March 24th.

The 27 year old slickster has not fought since defeating Willie Warburton last July on the undercard of Anto’s English title win, with this bout having been a keep-busy bout for the Hall fight which never materialised.

The short-notice title fight also means that Sonny will no longer box on the inaugural MTK London card in Brentwood on Friday March 17th. Older brother and Irish champion Pauly will still feature on the bill.

Anto boxed earlier this month, headlining the inaugural Ginley Promotions bill at the Devenish venue in Belfast.
