Somebody’s 0 has got to go! – Larry Fryers feeling ready for big step up on DiBella bill

Tucked away under the radar in Upstate New York, Larry Fryers [5(2)-0] is enjoying a breakthrough period of his career.

After recovering from a hand injury suffered on the massive Mick Conlan debut card in March, the Monaghan light welter has rattled off two quick-fire wins and will now take a jump up in class for big show in Manhattan.

Tomorrow night [Thursday 14th] Fryers will face undefeated Puerto Rican Charles Natal [9(3)-0-2] over six rounds at the BB King Blues Club on a Lou DiBella ‘Broadway Boxing’ card.

‘Lethal’ Larry feels ready for the task at hand. In his most recent fight, Fryers took something of a step up, moving to six rounds and outpointing the game Heberto Persico in Canada.

The Clones fighter told Irish-Boxing.com that “the test in Canada was a good step up for me against a tough Mexican but I came threw it easily enough, winning every round.”

“It was good getting the full six under my belt in that one so I know what to expect for this one if it goes the distance I’ll be more than ready.”

“It’s the biggest fight of my career so far and preparations have gone perfect. I’m feeling good and sharp and raring to go.”

Despite only being five fights into his pro career, the 27 year old is keen to be pushed at pace and explained how “I’m a hundred percent ready for this step up.”

“I believe I have what it takes to take this opportunity and use it as the pathway to even bigger and better things.”

Some would say it’s a risk at this stage in one’s career, but Fryers outlined how “I don’t agree, at the end of the day this is what I got involved in the sport for – to test myself and my abilities against the best out there so I can see what I have to offer and where I’m at and what better way to do that than against a guy who’s 9-0 on a big card like Broadway Boxing”

“I asked for this fight. I had another opponent who had three wins and three losses, the contract was ready to sign and all and I turned it down and asked for this fight instead because this is where I want to be, testing myself against the best there is on offer,” continued Fryers before the East Durham-based boxer described the added buzz which a competitive clash brings.

“I feel a lot more excitement knowing I’m not guaranteed to win this one – not that I’ve been guaranteed to win my previous fights, but I was expected to.”

“Here it’s a case of ‘here you go lad, we’re giving you what you’ve asked for, now let’s see what you can do and what you’ve got’ – and that has really got me revved up for this one.”

“Somebody’s perfect record has got to go and I’m going to make sure that, come fight night, it won’t be mine because I’m ready for this.”
