Six gold for Ireland in 2014 Haringey Box Cup

The Old School BC in Monaghan celebrated a McKenna double on Sunday after claiming two gold medals at the international Haringey Box Cup in London.

Brothers Gary McKenna and Stephen McKenna finished on top of their respective podiums at Alexandra Palace in a tournament which prides itself on being the biggest of its kind in Europe.

Current Irish Elite champion Con Sheehan and Paddy Clavin, who were lining out for a Munster Select, also won gold, along with St Francis BC ace Alan Murphy.

Mathew Tinker, who was beaten by three-time AIBA World Elite, Youth and Junior medallist Joe Ward in February’s Irish Elite final at Dublin’s National Stadium, also won gold.

Tinker was representing the St Francis BC in his meeting with Ward at the home of Irish boxing. He was boxing for Dale Youth in London last weekend.
