Sheer delight – management company talk about Stevie McKenna signing

Sheer Sports are delighted to have another McKenna and another decorated Irish amateur in their stable having agreed to sign Stevie McKenna this week.

The management company have worked alongside Golden Boy Promotions to bring World silver medalist Jason Quigley to fringe world level and to ensure Ireland’s youngest pro fought on TV after just two fights and three months as a pro.

The American based Ken Sheer company now have another Irish fighter to work with as former Commonwealth Youth Games gold medal winner Stevie McKenna follows in his little brother’s footsteps.

The middle of the Monaghan boxing brothers has been by his younger brother’s side as he has impressively marched to 3-0 and it seems the Sheer team including trainer Courage Tshbalala have been impressed.

“Stevie obviously came about because of Aaron. He came over to help Aaron prep for a few fights and we had him sparring around LA. The lad did amazing and it was clear very quickly that we have another talent on our hands,” the hardworking Rachel Charles of Sheer Sports explained to Irish-Boxing.com.

Charles suggests the work ethic of both fighters appealed and believes McKenna will be a successful addition to a stable that has Donegal’s Jason Quigley as a leading light.

” We couldn’t be happier to have another one of the McKenna clan in our stable. They are both probably the hardest working lads I’ve ever met. They follow a long line of successful brother duos in boxing.”

“Our stable is shaping up nicely, packed with talent, our third decorated amateur from Ireland of course with Jason Quigley at the head of the table. It’s a great time in boxing right now and an even better one for Sheer Sports.”

News broke on Sunday that the Monaghan youngster would be turning pro and working alongside Sheer Sports. However, while a deal is in place and set to be signed in May there remains a wait for things to become 100 percent official.

“He hasn’t signed yet although he will officially sign when he returns to the US in May. We have to get some immigration details worked out before he can do anything.”
