Shakur Stevenson wants to “take out” McGregor’s “little bro” Mick Conlan

Olympic silver medalist Shakur Stevenson debuts this weekend, and the American teen is looking forward to a future showdown with Ireland’s Mick Conlan [1(1)-0].

19 year old Stevenson will debut prominently on the Top Rank triple world title pay-per-view bill in California on Saturday.

The Newark boxer was on course to meet Conlan in the Rio Olympic bantamweight semi-finals before the Belfast switch-hitter was controversially eliminated by Vladimir Nikitin.

Nikitin would then withdraw from his last four encounter with Stevenson due to pre-existing cuts worsened by Conlan. The U.S. youngster would be edged in the final by Robeisy Ramirez – who himself defeated Conlan in the 2012 Olympic flyweight semis.

Both Conlan and Stevenson have since signed big pro deals with Top Rank, with the Irishman debuting at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in a St Patrick’s Day headline fight, stopping Tim Ibarra in three, while his young rival starts off against Edgar Brito at the StubHub Centre in a few days time.

Conlan’s debut last month came amidst much fanfare, with Irish UFC superstar Conor McGregor walking him to the ring – something which did not escape the attention of Stevenson.

In an interview with ES News, a match-up between Stevenson and Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor was jokingly suggested, to which Stevenson responded: “I’d rather take out the little bro, Michael Conlan.”

“I want to take out Michael Conlan we’ve got unfinished business!”

Stevenson described how Conlan is “talking a lot right now, I’m going to let him talk but we’re going to get that done.”

“He’s a great fighter, later on down the line we’re going to fight for big, big money and I can’t wait.”

A fight has been mooted from the very off by Top Rank boss Bob Arum, although it may soon become impossible to make.
