Second Coming Countdown – Ciaran ‘Bunty’ McVarnock

MGM return to Ireland this weekend and, ahead of the massive ‘Second Coming’ show at the National Stadium, irish-boxing.com is profiling all the Irish fighters who will be in action.

Today is the turn of Belfast starlet Ciaran McVarnock [4(0)-0-1].

‘Bunty’ is an all-action super featherweight who loves a war.

Promoted by Frank Warren and trained by the legendary Arnie Farnell, there are high hopes for the 23 year old after an irregular and frustrating first eighteen months as a pro.

Alongside lightweight Joe Fitzpatrick, McVarnock is part of an effort by Frank Warren to stake a claim in the lucrative Belfast market, and the youngster certainly has the potential to put bums on seasts.

This can certainly be seen in his recent war with Jose Acero on the Lights Out at the Plaza undercard. In this fight the Belfast man was hurt but was able to bite down on his gumshield and battle through to secure a draw – despite imperfect preparations, something which he will look to put right in Dublin on Saturday.
