Wild Atlantic Warrior Sean McGlinchey ready for debut following Glenn McCrory link-up

Sean McGlinchey ends a long wait for his pro debut tomorrow, and the Derry 24 year old is feeling strong and sharp following a link-up with former world champion Glenn McCrory.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist makes his paid bow on the inaugural Kieran Farrell Promotions Belfast show, and enters the paid ranks with a lot of support and endorsement.

McGlinchey is the first fighter to come out of former IBF cruiserweight king McCrory’s Wild Atlantic Boxing Club in Culdaff, Donegal.

‘Mummy’s Bhoy’ is enjoying the transition with McCrory, with McGlinchey dropping from light heavyweight to super middleweight, and 160lbs being on the eventual horizon. He described how “my camp has gone really well.”

“It has been tough, but I am really happy with the way that it went and so is Glenn.”

“I feel like I have made the changeover well, and it will show on Saturday night.”

Despite a long gap since his last fight, McGlinchey is ready to hit the ground running. He reasoned that “it’s been over a year since my last fight, but with my camp I am pretty sure that I removed all the ring rust.”

“Nerves are a good thing, I always get them and I bounce off them so I’m not worried about them.”

At The Devenish Complex on Saturday, McGlinchey will face tough Czechian Josef Obeslo [6(4)-34(5)-3], a quite strong debut foe.

This doesn’t bother the Oakleaf boxer who outlined that “I know the opponent has had a lot of fights and I’ve seen a quick video of him – but I’m not worried about what he can do, I think about what I can do.”

“On Saturday night you can be in for a hell of a fight from the first bell to the last.”

Whether it be Dublin or Belfast, amateur or pro, if a Derry boxer is in the ring you can bet that McGlinchey will be there cheering them on, and the popular Creggan man is receiving similar support from his area.

McGlinchey noted how “the support has been amazing. Not just in my hometown Derry, but from all over, it is amazing.”

“I’d like to thank all the businesses who’ve sponsored me, Granny Annie’s, Glennform, ThanksJosh Clothing, Watches of Wales, and everyone who has spent their money to come see me.”

The card tomorrow night is topped by an eight-round clash between Feargal McCrory and Jay Carney, with undercard support from Mike Perez, Mark Morris, Mathew Fitzsimons, Sean Magee, Sean Higginson, Gerard Healy, and Ronnie Clark.

Tickets are available from the boxers involved at the following prices:
£20 (standing)
£35 (unreserved seating)
£50 (ringside)
