Sean McComb staying level-headed despite early excitement

Sean McComb [5(3)-0] is deliberately choosing not to believe the early hype.

After five wins and five eye-catching displays in just four months, a real excitement is building around the Belfast light welter.

Indeed, McComb has been picked as one to watch out for in 2019 by a host of respected names in the game and his stock seems to be rising fast.

‘The Public Nuisance’ is hoping to claim titles in 2019 and returns to the ring at the Ulster Hall on Friday March 29th where he looks set to take another step up.

McComb is determined to stay humble, hungry, and focused despite the fan-fare.

The European Games bronze medallist noted how “a few people like Carl Frampton and Boxing News magazine have me as one of the prospects of 2019 and that’s good.”

“If I can keep people happy and I’m boxing well, I’ll just stay level-headed and focus on what I want to achieve in my career.”

Part of what has caught peoples’ eye with regard to the southpaw since he ditched the vest has been his stoppage wins.

The Belfast fighter has looked strong and powerful at light welter and has claimed three knockouts in his five quickfire fights.

McComb explained that he is working on increasing the power in his punches.

‘The Turf Lodge Tommy Hearns’ described how “I’ve been working on sitting down on my punches more and getting more whip on them. I want to keep going the way I’m going tactically and trusting my talent.”

“I can feel the power coming in the more I mature. I want to keep the speed and the movement going while continuously adding power.”

McComb will be aiming to show this power at Ulster Hall on the undercard of the Luke Keeler v Conrad Cummings rematch.

It’s a return to the venue where the former amateur stand-out claimed the Ulster title and McComb can’t wait to fight again at the iconic venue.

The 26-year-old outlined how “I can’t wait to fight at Ulster Hall. It’s one of the best boxing venues in the whole of Ireland. There’s so much boxing history there – there’ve been some massive names and some massive nights.”

“The atmosphere will be electric on the night. I’ve competed in every tournament there as an amateur and it’s right up there with the best places I’ve ever fought in.”
