Sean McComb secures substantial step-up

Turf Lodge light welter Sean McComb [6(3)-0] looks set to make a step-up in both rounds and opposition in his next fight.

It has been announced today that ‘The Public Nuisance’ will box tough Czech fighter Miroslav Serban [10(5)-2(0)] at the Ulster Hall in Belfast as part of the #MTKFightNight bill in the city on Friday May 17th.

The fight will take place over eight rounds in an encouraging step-up for McComb.

Serban, an international-level amateur, is the Czech light welterweight champion and will be more than familiar to Irish fans having shared the ring with Paul Hyland Jr back in February. The Lagmore ligthweight was given a tough fight and was droppped by Serban before claiming a, somewhat wide, 78-74 win on the referee’s scorecard.

Since then, Serban was due to face the world title-chasing Jack Catterall in London last weekend but this fight fell through and he now faces McComb.

Having quickly built his record, the Glasgow-based McComb has stepped things up in recent fights, first dominating Zoltan Szabo before easing past Troy James in his two six-rounders to date.

The 26-year-old is keen to fight for domestic titles soon and Serban represents a good match at this stage.

The bill in just over two weeks’ time is headlined by the return to the ring of former unified bantamweight champ Ryan Burnett and also features appearances for Dee Sullivan, Callum Bradley, Sean Duffy, Steven Donnelly, Lewis Crocker, Padraig McCrory, and a big all-Irish super featherweight clash between Marco McCullough and Declan Geraghty.
