Stylish Sean McComb planning to build pro bandwagon following eye-catching debut

The performance of the early undercard on Saturday night came from Sean McComb [1(1)-0].

Making his professional debut, the Belfast lightweight stopped Nicaraguan Reynaldo Mora at Windsor Park.

McComb, throwing combinations of punches from all angles, dropped Mota in the third round before the bout was waved off with ‘The Public Nuisance’ on the offensive in the fourth.

It was highly impressive from the European Games bronze medallist whose defection to the pros mid-Olympic cycle came s a surprise to some.

The rangy southpaw looks a good fit, in any case, and described afterwards how “it was the perfect debut, I didn’t rush anything, I took my time, I just enjoyed it more than anything, went out pure relaxed and it paid off – the punches came together well and the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.”

Speaking to IFL TV, McComb explained how “I was showcasing, it’s what it’s all about, it’s the entertainment business.”

“I was just taking my time, picking my punches, and just letting it happen. Whatever came to me naturally, I did it, I wasn’t going to rush anything.”

“I put him down but I took my time, got back behind my jab, picked my punches, and when the opportunity came I jumped on it.”

McComb is back in action in just three weeks time, featuring on the Amir Khan v Samuel Vargas undercard at the Arena Birmingham on Saturday September 8th.

The 26-year-old is keen to carry momentum forward both inside and outside of the ring following an eye-catching performance at Windsor.

He outlined: “What a stage to make your pro debut on! It’s a unique one, a football stadium here in Belfast, my home time. There was a good atmosphere as well, it was perfect.”

“All my mates were here, from Turf Lodge, St James’s, and all over. I’ve a good support and I’m sure they’ll bounce on the bandwagon and any away fights I have, they’ll be there – they all want an excuse to get away for a beer and a party weekend.”
