Sean McComb happy more fans get to see he is not as ‘shite’ as he looks

Sean McComb hopes he showed a wider audience he isn’t as ‘shite’ as he looks on Friday.

The light welterweight has had one of the most impressive starts to pro life from an Irish fighter in recent times having blitzed his way to seven wins in nine months.

The manner of those victories have both proved the ultimate two fingers to those who told him his style wasn’t pro suited and won ‘The Public Nuisance’ massive respect from the Irish fight public in particular.

Now having shown his wares and strutted his impressive stuff live on ESPN + last Friday night McComb is hopeful he won some American admires.

The Danny Vaughan trained prospect suggests those across the Atlantic may have taken note for the wrong reasons upon casting eyes at him initially, but believes the manner in which he took out Miroslav Serban should have won him some Stateside followers.

“People look at me and probably say ‘he is tall and skinny, he is probably shite’. If I looked at me I would think I was shite.  Then you see someone hitting like that and taking a guy out like that and they’ll think ‘he is class’. Hopefully I caught a couple of eyes in America and we get  a few phone calls from promoters this week,” McComb said after the first round knock out victory.

“It’s on American TV on ESPN+ and I wanted to put a good show on and that’s what I done.”

After impressing against former British challenger Troy James in his last visit to the Ulster Hall the former Holy Trinity amateur was handed Serban as another step up.

The Czech earned himself a reputation as solid battler when he pushed soon to be European title challenger Paul Hyland Jr on his last trip to the city.

McComb and his team were expecting eight hard rounds, but much to his and his supporters delight the bout didn’t reach the second stanza.

“It was a good  performance. I was expecting a hard eight rounds tonight. I prepared  for it, conditioned myself for it and then one round and win in side 1:30. I got the job done. I felt I hurt him with a body shot early on and I just pounced on him.

“He is not mug. We looked at his record and we knew the way he fought. We knew he was a come forward stocky, wee strong fighter. I just found range and caught him early. My game plan wasn’t to move, move, move. My plan was to hit him before he hit me. It was like hitting a jack russell with a stick. That was my plan. A shot early on hurt him and I pounced on him.”

After another undercard stealing performance there are those calling for McComb to be stepped up again, while others point out there is no rush and he should be afforded more time.

The fighter himself is happy either way, but is adamant has been ready to be moved along quick since day one.

“I am ready to step up now. I was ready to step up on my debut. I don’t care, but it’s up to MTK and my management. They can bring in the right opponents at the right time and step me in the right direction at the right time. I have been a pro nine months and people are already talking about big titles. If it happens it happens, but if it doesn’t fuck it I’ll be here next year that’s a fact.”
