Sean Magee ready to make his dream come true on Saturday night

Sean Magee is enjoying the journey as he approaches his dream pro debut on Saturday night.

While he had boxing on the backburner for a few years, the Belfast super feather returned to the sport recently under John Breen and was snapped up by young promoter Kieran Farrell.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind transition, but Magee now stands of the verge of fulfilling a lifelong dream and boxing as a professional.

The 27 year old is set to debut on the ‘A New Era’ card in Belfast on Saturday night at The Devenish Complex in his native Belfast.

Magee is understandably excited and told Irish-Boxing.com that “I can’t wait to get in that ring and make my dream come true.”

“I have always talked about and wanted to turn pro, now it’s happening and I can’t wait to get started on Saturday night.”

“The support from my local community has been amazing. I can’t believe how many people are behind me and wishing me all the best. It’s a nice felling when you have the backing of family, friends and your community behind you so I can’t thank them all enough.”

Magee is of strong boxing stock, with his uncles Noel, Eamonn, and Terry all fighting professionally. Indeed it’s a bit of a family affair, with former Commonwealth light welterweight champ Eamonn being part of his training team at the legendary Breen’s Gym.

“It’s brilliant working with my uncle,” admits Magee. “He’s always showing me and teaching me new things in the gym. A very smart man.”

“Working with John as well, they are two brilliant and very experienced coaches. I’m learning alot from both of them and happy to be part of the Breen Team.”

“My first camp has gone well, everything seems to be going in the right direction.”

“My fitness and weight are good so I’m happy with how it’s gone.”

“I feel like I’m adjusting well, I’m feeling good. It’s very different to the amateur style of training but I’m enjoying it.”

“I’ve still alot to learn but I’ll get there slowly but surely!”

The North Belfast fighter believes he is adjusting to the pro game well and is hoping to put on a show on Saturday night at The Devenish Complex.

First up is awkward Latvian Aleksandrs Birkenbergs [3(3)-9(4)], and Magee is confidently tells how “I don’t know a lot about my opponent to be honest, but I’m not too bothered about that.”

“I’ll just get in there on Saturday night and do what I do and give my best.”

“I’m going in there on Saturday night to do my best. I have worked hard for it in the gym so hopefully it all pays off and you will be entertained and enjoy what I do!”

The West Belfast bill on Saturday is topped by an eight-round clash between Feargal McCrory and Jay Carney, with undercard support from Mike Perez, Sean McGlinchey, Mathew Fitzsimons, Sean Higginson, Mark Morris, Gerard Healy, and Ronnie Clark.

Tickets are available from the boxers involved at the following prices:
£20 (standing)
£35 (unreserved seating)
£50 (ringside)
