Scott Quigg leaves Joe Gallagher
Bury’s Scott Quigg has parted company with Sligo-Mancunian trainer Joe Gallagher and will relocate to the West Coast of America.
Quigg [32(24)-1(0)-2] will link up with Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
The move marks an end to Quigg’s thirteen-fight relationship with Gallagher which saw him win the British super bantamweight title and be involved in a massive IBF-WBA unification with Belfast’s Carl Frampton last February at the Manchester Arena.
The English boxer would lose to ‘The Jackal’ via split decision, having his jaw broken in the process. Quigg returned in December, moving up to featherweight, and stopping Jose Cayetano to win the WBA International belt and move into the organisation’s rankings.
Quigg had been out in LA these past few weeks, training alongside Mick Conlan at ‘The Rock Gym’ for a spell, and will now link up with Roach at the Wildcard – where he and Gallagher had done portions of their camps in the past.
The 28 year old said that “after six years working together, I announce my departure from Joe Gallagher. We have been a great team and achieved a lot and had some great wins together. I have moved up to featherweight with the goal of becoming a two-weight world champion and believe I need a fresh challenge to help me grow.”

This is an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up and I believe this move and change will take me to another level.”

Quigg, who will continue to be promoted by Matchroom, has long stated his desire to face Frampton in a rematch, even after the Ulsterman’s WBA featherweight title loss to Leo Santa Cruz last month.
